What Are GLP-1 Agonists?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) agonists are a class of medications originally developed for type 2 diabetes that have shown remarkable efficacy for weight management. They work by mimicking the natural GLP-1 hormone produced in your gut after eating.
Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound. While semaglutide targets only the GLP-1 receptor, tirzepatide is a dual agonist that also targets the GIP receptor.
